We have been able to construct detailed maps of the knowledge of students in introductory mechanics and electricity and magnetism.

We study how physics classes actually work; how the things students do affect their outcomes.

We study how physics classes can be more supportive by addressing the needs of traditionally underrepresented students.

Retention

We study the properties that cause students to leave science and engineering and what universities can do to improve retention.

Affect

We study how a student feels, their sense of self-efficacy, belonging, identity, affects physics achievement and retention.
